Year of Cookies - January

Here is the first instalment of my Year of Cookies, made over the month of January. Despite how busy the month was and being away two weekends - missing my baking Sundays - I still managed to stick to my goal! One month down, eleven to go!

I also treated myself to a new kitchen gadget for this mission… a cookie scoop! I'm sure you all already have one, and it's kind of ridiculous how excited I am. I've never been one for gadgets, I tend to stick to the essentials - mostly due to our small kitchen - but this has changed my life! Its so quick and keeps my hands clean, two thumbs up!

Week 1 - Perfect Chocolate Chip Cookies, via Williams Sonoma - baked for 10 minutes, made 18 cookies
I decided to start with a classic, and these were definitely that! I only used 1 cup of chocolate chips, instead of 2 cups as in the recipe. Next time I might up it to 1 1/2 cups, I think that would stretch the dough a bit farther and yield a few more cookies, and because more chocolate chips is always a good idea!

Week 2 - Fat & Fluffy Snickerdoodles, via How Sweet It Is - baked for 10 minutes, made 24 cookies
These are a bit different from the Snickerdoodles I've had, and made before. Usually they are thin and crackly on top, but these ones are thick and a bit more cakey. I think I prefer the thin version, but Corey loved these.

Week 3 - Vanilla Bean Confetti Cookies, via Joy the Baker - baked for 9 minutes, made 19 cookies
For the week of my birthday I obviously had to do something festive. And I'll take any excuse to use sprinkles! This recipe is in Joy's new book, Homemade Decadence - which I highly recommend!

Week 4 - Chewy Ginger Molasses Cookies, via Gimme Some Oven - baked for 8 minutes, *half recipe made 24 cookies
I made this recipe for the first time in December, after trying a few Ginger Molasses recipes and never finding that perfect combination of spices, chewiness & that wonderful crackly top. That is until I tried this one! And this time I swapped the white sugar for dark muscodavo sugar - a birthday gift from a co-worker. It added an extra depth of flavour.

Stay tuned for another month of cookies at the end of February.

Sending love,

Xo, A

  1. Alysia, these look delicious! I think I need to try the chocolate chip ones and the ginger molasses ones. We have company for lunch today... maybe I will try one. :) can't wait to see February's.
