Re: Homesick/Nostalgia

This pretty much sums up the last two summers I spent in Port Alberni. Any of these things, on any given day, can bring me right back to certain moments. And I love that.

I would definitely describe myself as a nostalgic person. I am incredibly lucky to get to live with a someone who was such a big part of those memories. But when Corey and I first moved to Vancouver I used to get homesick fairly often. I used to crave a slow day in our sleepy hometown. But the longer I've been away the more I realize it's not the small town I miss, it's the way it was when we all lived there. The more I visit the less I want to go back, because I realize it's never going to be what it was. Maybe one day we'll all move back, and have bonfires with our families and lake days with our kids, and it will all be very One Tree Hill. Until then I'll have to settle for little details to be reminders of such happy memories.

When we were growing up my Mum always said how lucky we were and how special it was to have such a close bond. That we're lucky to be able to pick up right where we left off after being away from each other whether its been a week, a month, or years since we last saw each other. She was certain our friendship was a rare thing, and that it would last a lifetime. I always just brushed her off, like "Okay Mum, no need to get so sentimental. We're friends. Of course we'll never lose touch." But as the years have passed, and I've lost touch with so many people, and met many more, and lost touch with them too, I realize that my Mum was right (as usual, but don't let her know that).

Homesick

It is safe to say I am as homesick. More than I have ever been before. I am sitting here with a cup of Sleepytime tea, (My Opa's favourite) not even sure if I like it or if the smell just reminds me of him.

Do you guys ever think we are still on a long summers break and we are going to end up back in high school? Does that feeling ever change? I am so thankful for you guys. Have you ever heard the saying  'If a friendship lasts longer than 7 years, psychologists say it will last a lifetime.'  I Hope that is true for us! Love you guys. miss you sooooooo much!

Ladies and well Ladies!

This has undeniably been the best idea our friends have ever had. And to start off the fun I thought I'd post a photo or two from our recent "unannounced" nuptials! And to mention how thankful I am for all of the love from all you girls over the last gosh decade or more!! So, ENJOY :) xox

I Am so excited this idea just dawned on you Lysh. This is exactly what we all needed, an outlet besides the general Facebook and text message. This is a real true and unique way to communicate and update each other on our exciting and ever changing lives. For instance, today I am starting a new knitting project I can take on the long 13 hour plane ride to Australia. Yes, I can take knitting on the plane, thank you Air New Zealand!

Love you all so much, and I'm always so proud to say my 4 closest friends when I was 12 are still my 4 closest friends now!

13 years and counting

From exploring BC's wilderness in our backyards, to travelling the world.
From baking after school (pretending to be on the Martha Stewart show), to perfecting recipes for our husbands and families.
From sewing pillows for our childhood bedrooms, to knitting things for the next bundle of joy we're all patiently awaiting.

Some things change, but some things will always remain the same. Like our love of '90's pop songs, "...friendship never ends."

This is a space where we can share our lives with each other - good days & bad days, projects & recipes, thoughts & memories. And make that 11750km that separates us feel a lot smaller.
